Oremus studio setup (click for more info)

Oremus has two sets of gear -- one for recording and one for performing. Their performance setup is built around a Behringer Europower PMX3000 powered mixer and JBL JRX100 speakers.

Oremus uses a Yamaha keyboard, Gibson and Godin guitars (with Elixir strings), an Ibanez bass, and a combination of Audio-Technica and Shure microphones.

Their recording setup is built around a Behringer PMX3000 mixer and a custom Ubuntu Linux workstation that was specially tweaked for recording.

Up until (and including) the recording of Your Face, Oremus used a Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop running Windows XP Professional. They first attempted to record Your Face using Windows Sound Recorder, RealPlayer and Windows Movie Maker. When they realized that those tools were not adequate, they switched to an open-source (free) project called Audacity. Audacity allows Oremus to record several tracks over each other, for example, Tom singing, Chris singing, and a keyboard part.

In early 2004, they built a custom Linux workstation specially for recording. They chose to run the Linux operating system because it is free and very configurable. The workstation has a small form factor case for portability. It started with a brand of linux made by RedHat called Fedora Core 2. Most of the audio software was provided by Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA).

The workstation now runs a multimedia-optimized version of Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon (7.10). It runs Audacity, Ardour (a package similar to Audacity, but with more features), and several other software packages and effects plugins.

In 2007, Tom got an ASUS A8JS laptop that he uses for webmatering this site. Chris also bought himself a Lenovo ThinkPad T61 and an M-Audio FastTrack Pro USB audio interface which he uses for his work at Relevant Radio, and to record live performances.

Over the years, several sponsors have contributed funds for recording and performance equipment. These purchases include our performance setup, studio reference monitors, and other studio equipment. Many thanks to the sponsors who make Oremus possible! If you would like to help support Oremus' evangelization effort, email Tom or Chris; any help is greatly appreciated!
